Getting married in Georgia as a foreigner
Foreigners register a marriage at the Public Service Hall. Along with the passports, the Hall asks for documents showing that each partner is free to marry, such as a certificate of marital status or a divorce certificate. Ask the Public Service Hall for the exact list for your case before you start.
For the Public Service Hall, every document except the passport has to be translated on a notarized copy. When you order, choose the notarized copy option and bring the originals: the notary certifies copies of them and we translate those.
Using a marriage certificate abroad
- 1Get the apostille on the Georgian certificate at the Public Service Hall.
- 2Send us the certificate with its apostille. We translate both into the language of the country.
- 3The translator's signature is notarized.
- 4If the receiving country asks for it, put an apostille on the notarized translation too.
What the translation must get right
- Each spouse's name in the spelling of their own passport, including surnames before and after marriage
- The registry entry number, issuing office, dates and places
- Every stamp, signature note and the apostille
- Old and Soviet-era certificates in full, including handwritten entries

Questions about this service
Short answers before you order
A marriage certificate is usually issued only once, so the office keeps a notarized copy with its translation instead of your original. This applies to every document except the passport.
Yes, if the translation must be on a notarized copy. The notary makes the copy from the original. For other uses a photo or PDF is usually enough.
Yes. Divorce certificates and court divorce decisions follow the same rules and are often needed before remarrying or changing a surname back.
A marriage certificate is usually translated and notarized the same day. A full set of documents for a marriage registration may take longer; we confirm the deadline by email.
Yes. It needs an apostille or legalization from the country that issued it. We then translate it into Georgian and notarize the translation.
